Five start-ups in the aerospace sector: BH Dynamics, Radian Systems, Anzen Engineering, ienai SPACE and Madrid Space -one of the companies of the first edition of our Acceleration Program-, have come together to give life to the first consortium of companies in the Madrid region focused on the ‘New Space’. These last three companies are ESA BIC Madrid Region incubatees being Madrid Space graduated from the program already.
MINSC, Madrid Innovation and New Space Cluster, based in the UC3M Science Park, is a response to the growing interest and demand around small satellites, and specifically nanosatellites (those with weights less than 10 kg), a booming segment within the space sector with an annual market of $ 14 billion worldwide.
Among the objectives of the consortium are to promote dissemination, research and generation of knowledge around the “New Space”, as well as properly economic activities. The consortium seeks to facilitate collaborations with research centers and large companies, through the execution of projects that benefit from the consortiates’ own knowledge, among which are includes the ability to perform thermal, structural, reliability and radiation analyzes of the space environment or the manufacture of key systems in satellites such as on-board computers, power systems, thermal control and propulsion.
To demonstrate the potential of these synergies, the consortium hopes to launch the CIBELES (CubeSat for Innovative and Baseline ELEments in Space) nanosatellite, named in honor of the well-known enclave of the capital. It is a 5 kg platform that will be put into orbit in early 2022 to demonstrate some of the proprietary technologies developed by companies consortiums.
